Evening entertainment, team events & challenges
Annual prize presentation, annual conference

Section awards for largest attendance and highest mileage total cycled to Shrewsbury.

The National Clarion, first visited Shrewsbury in 1900 and returned
this Easter weekend for the 9th time. The biggest program of events
for many years attracted both Clarion members and other club riders
alike. In true Clarion tradition of fellowship, all cyclists; racing, touring
or socialising received a warm welcome.

Event headquarters was at the Lion Hotel Wyle Copp, Shrewsbury
town centre, where members met for entertainment, socialising
and the annual conference.

Saturday afternoon saw the Clarion Cycling Club organising
the inaugural races on the newly built Sundorne Sports Village
Circuit.

Saturday evening the Clarion was entertained by ex-member
Terry Egglestone and his Ceilidh band. Terry is now a member
of local club Mid-Shropshire Wheelers.

On Easter Sunday, Mid-Shropshire wheelers invited the
Clarion to join in on their annual 25-mile time-trial race
on the Prees, Ternhill course. In the afternoon a leisure
ride was started by the Town Crier and went to Ironbridge
where Rodney Bryant put up some excellent photographs
on the
Bolton Clarion web site.

The Clarion ended the weekend with its annual dinner and
prize presentation at the Lion Hotel in Shrewsbury.

We would like to thank Mid-Shropshire Wheelers for the
support given for the weekend.

The Clarion Cycling Club last visited Shrewsbury in
1953 and now consists of some 25 sections in the UK
from Brighton & Hove up to the West of Scotland,
most of these traveled to Shrewsbury on Good Friday.
