Calder Clarion History

Calder's most famous member, Barry Hoban, takes the 1974
Ghent-Wevelgem from Eddie Merycx and Roger De Vlaeminck

Originally, Calder Clarion was the umbrella organisation for clubs
based in the the Calder valley who were affiliated to
the National Clarion.

'Our' club was the Wakefield Clarion and it eventually became
the last remaining section as club's in Halifax and Huddersfield
folded (remnants of the Huddersfield Clarion became
Huddersfield Star Wheelers).

With only Wakefield remaining, the club decided to take the name
Calder Clarion and have been known as that since 1959

Calder's most famous member is Barry Hoban who had an illustrious
carreer as a Continental professional rider and still holds the highest
number of stages wins by any British rider in the Tour de France
