Sturgess Trophy Explained !!!!!!!
For rides done in the summer 10 TT series only, handicap times are calculated
and a finishing order produced for each time trial. The
winner, after the order is calculated takes 10 points, second place receives
9 and so on. Cyclists finishing 10th 11th,12th….receive 1 point.
The points gained are added up weekly to maintain a League Table with
the best 10 scores counting. The league winner takes the
Sturgess Trophy.
The handicap is 24 minutes subtracted from the best race time in the current
and previous seasons.
The handicap time is the event actual race time with the handicap subtracted
from it.
For cyclists with no previous time for this or last season, the event
actual time is taken as the best for future rides and 1 point is awarded.
So if a rider has a best of 28 minutes, their handicap is 4 minutes (28.00
minus 24.00). The rider achieves 27.50 in an evening timetrial
then his handicap time achieved, to be compared with other riders is 27.40
minus 4 minutes giving 23.50.
A rider having a best of 23 minutes, has a handicap of minus 1 minute.
if he achieves 23.30 in a time trial, then his handicap time is 23.30
plus his handicap time, giving 24.30.
